NEW YORK — Schoology—a scalable learning management solution (LMS) deployed in K-12 schools and universities across 135 countries—won the SIIA CODiE Award for Best K-12 Enterprise Solution.

More than two million users at over 35,000 schools and universities use Schoology’s collaborative interface to boost student engagement and streamline curriculum management. Schoology’s user-centric design and open integration platform helps schools of every type meet the individual needs of learners with powerful tools for instruction, assessment and communication.

The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) is the principal trade association for the software and digital content industries. There were 28 CODiE Award winners in the education technology categories for 2013. Winners are selected by a panel of educators who name the finalists. SIIA member companies then vote to select the winners who bring home the coveted CODiE Award.

“SIIA’s 2013 CODiE Award winners show that innovation and growth is alive in many areas of the educational technology industry,” said SIIA Vice President for the Education Division, Karen Billings. “Among these 28 visionary winners, you’ll find many of the most exciting ed tech products and services out there. I look forward to seeing the impact they have on the PK-12 and postsecondary markets.”

“It is a great honor to be selected as a CODiE finalist by educators and then to be further honored by our peers who picked Schoology as the winner in the enterprise category,” said Jeremy Friedman, Schoology CEO. “Schoology’s mission is to provide teachers with the right tools to meet their students’ learning needs. By providing schools and districts with a comprehensive and scalable solution we are able to help improve student outcomes on a broader scale. This honor confirms we are achieving that mission.”

A recent video case study shows how Schoology is being used in Colorado’s largest school district, Jeffco Public Schools in Denver.

Remote Access to Desktops for Snow Days (and Every Day)

We love New England snow storms. But like many of you, we don’t like the inconvenience these pesky wintry mixes can cause. If the weather is keeping your employees from getting to the office and staying productive we can help!

Leostream offers a few options that keep employee productivity high and IT management resources low.

Remote Access with Leostream Connection Broker Technology

To provide anywhere access to a dedicated physical machine, organizations turn to remote access solutions. Typical remote access solutions are designed for individuals, not enterprises, making them difficult to configure and manage in a corporate environment. Leostream takes a different approach that offers all the benefits of traditional remote access but with a much simpler configuration. Leostream’s Connection Broker technology for remote access is extremely simple to set up, taking just five steps to configure. In our new white paper “Giving Corporate Users Access to Their PCs No Matter Where They Roam” you will learn how Leostream simplifies remote access in a large-scale environment.

Anywhere desktop access with Leostream Cloud Desktops

Historically, a user’s regular desktop has been tied to the specific hardware running the underlying operating system. A cloud desktop, on the other hand, is a virtual machine running in a datacenter and accessible from a Web browser. Each cloud desktop behaves like a physical desktop in that users can customize it however they like (installing applications, changing background images, what have you). However unlike physical desktops, a cloud desktop is no longer tied to a particular physical device. It goes wherever the user goes.

With a cloud desktop you can run complex applications that are traditionally not supported by your device. For example, you can access Photoshop on your iPad or run sales demos of a product on a tablet.

Leostream’s cloud-hosted desktops give employees access to their desktops anytime, anywhere, and on any device. Hosting employee desktops in the cloud allows employees to take their work with them wherever they go, and access it on whatever device they feel they are more effective on. Checkout Leostream’s whitepaper and find out “Everything you Need to Know about Cloud Desktops as a Virtualization Solution” and get started with your very own FREE trial of the cloud desktop service.

He cofounded the Palo Alto-based order fulfillment services operation with chief technology officer Evan Robinson at the end of 2006, but to get there, he had to wait until the timing was right.

Schechter had been in the tech and shipping world since the 90s, but took a break after the dotcom crash of the early 2000s to write a book on logistics. An interview with Costco’s head of logistic helped him figure out what he should do next: Find a way to give smaller companies the same logistical efficiencies

But at the time, the market wasn’t ready yet.

Back in the early 2000s, consumers as a whole were just not accustomed to doing a lot of online shopping. By 2006, that had changed. Shipwire built a platform that would work with merchants’ sales software, set up warehouses internationally, and began to ship products on behalf of businesses.

The main idea was to make it possible for small companies to have a third party store and ship their wares so they didn’t have to take on the enormous job themselves. Tiny companies trying to ship a large volume of orders can only answer their own phones and lick their own stamps for so long, and outsourcing locally has its limitations, Schechter says.

“There’s a whole tech world that you can’t really handle yourself or locally with local help. You need a bigger partner. But the problem is the big, big partners are helping the Target and the Walmart. Who helps the little guy? We fill that void.”
